I remember there was a time when during a job interview you showed proficiency and you were pretty much hired, especially if you passed various stages of technical interviewing or challenges.

My last couple of experiences, the final interview was more like, do we like him, no, okay we move on.

Is it that easy to find software developers these days that despite proficiency you can say, yeah he is good, but I don't like his handlebar mustache and move on? Just using handlebar mustache as an example.

Is this a trend across the board or just some companies do it, some don't?

Also, I had a CEO of a startup approach me recently saying the job would not pay much, somewhere around $30k because its a startup, he himself was only making $65K. I seriously needed to think about that and I was later told the position was filled...wow, someone agreed to those terms.
